PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Super App is riding on the e-commerce wave to deepen its presence and offer its services domestically and regionally.
The app, which is owned by the AirAsia Group, is set to make further inroads in e-commerce in various parts of the country even to the smaller businesses.
Airasia Super App chief executive officer Amanda Woo said the surge of e-commerce activities bodes well for the group’s e-commerce business. Airasia Super App is an entity under airasia Digital.
She said according to the Department of Statistics, e-commerce activities have surged by 30% in the first quarter of 2021 and this is also a trend that is reflected regionally. This is generally due to lockdowns and people having to rely on e-commerce usage to stay safe from the pandemic, she said.
Woo pointed out that airasia had begun digital diversification prior to the pandemic, and naturally it was greatly accelerated when the pandemic started.
The super app currently offers food delivery, ride-hailing, flight ticket booking, grocery shopping and an e-commerce platform for beauty products.
She told StarBiz: “airasia has built a robust ecosystem backed by a wealth of travel data, so it only makes sense that we fully leverage it to power our delivery business.
“We are constantly expanding our e-commerce reach to various parts of Malaysia and other Asean markets. Our goal is to reach to even the smallest business in order to help them digitally transform and survive the pandemic. Apart from the Klang Valley, our food delivery platform, airasia food, can be found in Seremban, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Johor, Melaka, and even Singapore.
“We have plans to expand to Ipoh in September, and other cities by the end of this year. Our groceries delivery platform, airasia grocer is available for customers in the Klang Valley, Kota Kinabalu and Singapore, while our beauty products platform, airasia beauty is available in Indonesia as well.”
Recently, the airasia Group expanded its e-commerce service with the launch of its e-hailing platform called airasia ride, hence solidifying airasia’s position as an important player in the tech industry.
The group has also made acquisitions, which include Gojek Thailand that would allow the expansion of its delivery business there as well as the acquisition of Malaysian online food delivery platform DeliverEat, which would allow the group to strengthen its fleet of drivers in Penang.
“These acquisitions are part of airasia Super App’s vision to become a consolidated platform and ecosystem that can cater to the needs of anyone on any day,” she said.
