SARAWAK Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has decided to ditch the proposal to use Pakatan Harapan logo as its common symbol in the coming state election. The reason for this decision is because the Pakatan logo is not well known among Sarawak folk. The state PKR said a decision was made in the last state leadership council meeting to use the party’s logo because it was perceived then to be “well known among the people and voters”. It did not disclose when or where the recent meeting was held. It also said the decision was unanimous. “All heads of division throughout Sarawak fully supported the state leadership council’s decision that all PKR candidates will use the party logo which is synonymous with the fight for real reforms and justice as well as fighting corruption. “After all, Malaysians are convinced that the PKR logo had succeeded in overthrowing the ruling Barisan Nasional regime in the 14th general election,” it added in a statement today. The Sarawak election is widely expected to be held anytime in the 60 days after the current state of emergency in Sarawak is lifted on February 2 next year. The term of the state legislative assembly expired on June 6 this year. However, as the national state of emergency declared on January 2 to deal with the Covid-19 was still in force at that time, an election could not be called just yet. The national emergency ended on August 1 but the Yang di-Pertuan Agong proclaimed a six-month local emergency in Sarawak from August 2 to February 2 next year in view of the spike in Covid-19 cases, pushing the election date further back. – September 14, 2021.
