KUALA LUMPUR: MISC Bhd’s first very large ethane carrier (VLEC) Seri Everest, successfully completed its first cargo discharge at Lianyungang port, in the Jiangsu province of China. MISC said on Wednesday Seri Everest’s first cargo of more than 51,000 tonnes of ethane was discharged safely on Feb 28 at the ethylene plant. The successful completion of Seri Everest’s loading and discharge which was managed by Eaglestar Shipmanagement Gas (S) Pte Ltd (Eaglestar) is to date, the largest in the history of ethane shipping. The cargo was loaded from Orbit Terminal, Nederland, in the US where Seri Everest was the first VLEC to call on the new terminal. MISC president & group CEO Yee Yang Chien described it as a landmark achievement and was a testament of the company’s expertise and commitment in moving energy. Following the delivery of Seri Everest in October 2020, MISC took delivery of her sister vessel – Seri Erlang, in January 2021. Seri Erlang is currently on her maiden voyage to the US. MISC is expected to take delivery of the remaining four VLECs within the first half of 2021. All six VLECs will be chartered to Zhejiang Satellite Petrochemical Co. Ltd for 15 years.
